If your work isn't fun, you're not doing it right

It's also possible that you're in the wrong line of work.

Great achievements, along with virtues such as humility, often come from a child-like sense of curiosity, play, lack of fear and innocence.

In other words, success is a result of not being afraid to have fun in whatever it is that you do.  You'd be surprised at what an un-cluttered mind can accomplish.

Here are a few examples of what I mean:

Mozart found his passion when he finally escaped the adulthood of a steady job in Salzburg, for the virility of Vienna.  There, he wrote and commanded operas, orchestras, singers and actors.  Though known for his playfulness, and sometimes child-like behavior, he created Don Giovanni, the opera that changed every piece of music that ever came after.

Marie Curie found her passion, like so many of us, by playing with things she encountered in nature - like rocks.  Why did some rocks seem to be like the sun (with their own source of light), when all else around them was pitch dark?  Like a child, she held them in her hand, looked hard at them and even threw them.  In other words, she studied them with playful curiosity.

Mick Jagger had no musical talent at all but would collect blues records from America.  He and his childhood friend, Keith Richards, would lie around listening to them.  When his parents sent him off to study at the London School of Economics, he was still listening to those records and scribbling down lyrics rather than paying attention to concepts like 'supply and demand'.

Mary Shelley wondered what it would be like if a machine had intelligence. She day-dreamed about it.  She called her machine the Frankenstein monster and made up stories about how people would treat such a hybrid human/machine.

The moral of the story:  Don't over-think things and truly enjoy what you do.

How much do you hate your job?

The fact is, most people hate their jobs.  However, it's my contention that if you're still there, then you don't hate it enough yet.

There's really only two things you can do about a job you hate:  1)  Get a better job.  2)  Start your own business (like Organo Gold, for example)

These people in China have arrived at a third idea, but I don't recommend it.  If your job is so bad that they're installing 'suicide nets' outside of the windows, you definitely need to re-evaluate your career choice.

Your dreams aren't lost until YOU quit

Giving up and quitting is the easiest thing in the world to do.  Exercise and proper nutrition it too hard?  Then quit.  It's too much effort to maintain your marriage?  Then quit.  Your business isn't an overnight success?  Then quit.  Pursuing that dream is just too much effort?  Then quit.  Quitting is easy, that's why most people do it... but that won't get you in the Hall of Fame.

Situations can be difficult.   Sometimes, it just 'makes sense' to give up.

Napoleon Hill understood this when he wrote down his 'philosophy of success' in the famous book, Think and Grow Rich.  This is what he said in one small story in the book, called 'Three Feet from Gold'- the story of R.U. Darby:

Before success comes in any man's life, he is sure to meet with much temporary defeat, and, perhaps, some failure.  When defeat overtakes a man, the easiest and most logical thing to do is to quit.  That is exactly what the majority of men do.

More than five hundred of the most successful men this country has ever known, told the author their greatest success came just one step beyond the point at which defeat had overtaken them.  Failure is a trickster with a keen sense of irony and cunning.  It takes great delight in tripping one when success is almost within reach.

I don't have anyone to talk to!

Everyone tells their kids, "Don't talk to strangers."  For kids, that's important - but not if you're going to do this business.  That's because talking to people is really what it's all about.  Seriously, it's not much more than that.  Whether it's coffee, tea or hot chocolate, there's an Organo Gold product that you could talk with someone about - at least briefly.

That's the truth. You know it and I know it.  If you want to start a business like this and go for your dreams, you are simply going to HAVE to interact with people - especially strangers.

But nonetheless, people still ask me, "How do I find people to talk to?"

Did you get gas for your car, today?  There were people there.

Did you go to a restaurant?  There were people there.

Did you go to the post office?  There were people there.

Did you go to the store?  There were people there.

Did you see your neighbor?  Those are people, too.

Did the UPS guy come to your house?  He's a person.

I'm betting that you saw a LOT of people, today. You found them. Now ask them if they or anyone they know drink coffee or tea, at least occasionally.

To simplify it even further, approach them and say, "I'm expanding my coffee business in the area. Would you mind trying a free coffee sample and just giving me your opinion?"

Worried about your future?

I'm not.  Oh, I 'could' be if I wanted to.  I just don't want to.  It's not for me, because today is yesterday's future and I'm not worried today.  Abraham Lincoln said that, "Most people are about as happy as they makes their minds up to be."  I'd agree with that, because you're happiest when you're in control of your life - and it begins by controlling your thoughts.

The other day at at Home Depot, an employee was helping me load an item into our van and noticed the boxes of coffee inside (rule #1, always have coffee and tea with you!).  Of course, I asked him if he drinks coffee and tea and how much he enjoys working at Home Depot.  Needless to say, we chatted for a little bit and I gave him some samples to try, along with some information.

You see, you have to set the expectation for the future by taking action today.  Have a positive mental attitude and be ready when opportunity comes your way - because you bring about what you think about.

Did you know that statistically the average American spends 3.5 hours a day worrying?

Rather than giving your energy over to worry and doubt, switch your energy to belief. Could you imagine what we would be capable of accomplishing if the statistic became: The average American spends 3.5 hours a day believing and taking action? WOW!  One way that you can start transferring that energy away from worry and doubt is to set goals. Yes, we hear this a lot, but there’s a reason that you do.  Only you have control over what you wear, what you eat, what you read, etc... and it's you who are in control of your goals.  Next, realize that you can achieve them.

Believe it or not, many who set goals see it as a nice, pretty dream - like an art piece hanging on a wall that they occasionally glance at and think, "Wow, I wish I could paint something like that."  It's because they don’t believe that they can actually achieve what they envision for themselves.

Maybe you’ve set goals in the past and they still haven’t come to fruition.  That can happen, but you have to ask yourself what was in your control that attributed to the goal not being accomplished? Are you a procrastinator?  Did you lack a plan?  Did you need specialized knowledge that you didn't seek out?  Worst of all, did you let someone else talk you out of your dreams?

You need to figure that out.  You can always start over, you know. It’s up to you what you do or don’t do, this time around. Listen to your critics too, by the way. We all have them. Sometimes what they say can be valid and useful.  Don't take it personally, especially if they're not paying your bills. Most times, though, critics are just that - critics.  What they have to say can destroy your dreams if you listen to them, so filter it carefully.  As a general rule, don't listen to anyone who hasn't accomplished what you desire to do.  And most important of all... STOP worrying.

Dreamer vs a Doer

Lots of people dream about owning a successful business that creates financial independence.  But if you're considering an Organo Gold business, you are going to have to lead by example.  In other words, you'll need to be doing what you are going to want the people in your organization to do.

The universe responds to dreams (i.e. strong desire) if you're sending the right message to it.  For one thing, you have to be ready for your success!  Secondly, you have to move, work and show others how it's done.  Then they'll copy you.  With Organo Gold, that means setting up your proper autoship, hosting business meetings, attending the meetings of others and ALWAYS promoting the product and the opportunity... and following up with people.  These are just basic business principles, but doing them gets you to your dream.

So let's talk about dreaming a little bit, shall we?

If you're still reading at this point, then I'd like to contrast a Dreamer vs a Doer - because they are very closely related.  You see, while most people spend their lives struggling to earn a living, a much smaller group seems to have everything going their way.  Instead of just earning a living, the smaller body of people is busily working at building and enjoying a fortune.  Everything just seems to work out for them. Wow!  And here sits the much larger group, wondering how life can be so unfair, so complicated and unjust. What’s the major difference between the little group with so much and the larger group with so little?

Dreams are a projection of the kind of life you want to lead. Dreams can drive you. Dreams can make you skip over obstacles. When you allow your dreams to pull you, they unleash a creative force that can overpower any obstacle in your path. To unleash this power, though, your dreams must be well defined. A fuzzy future has little pulling power. Well-defined dreams are not fuzzy. Wishes are fuzzy. To really achieve your dreams, to really have your future plans pull you forward, your dreams must be vivid.

If you’ve ever hiked a 14,000-foot peak in the Rocky Mountains, one thought has surely come to mind: “How did American settlers do it?” How did they get from the East Coast to the West Coast? Carrying one day’s supply of food and water is hard enough. Can you imagine hauling all of your worldly goods with you... mile after mile, day after day, month after month? These people had big dreams - very big.  They had ambition.  They didn’t focus on the hardship of getting up the mountain.  In their minds, they were already on the other side - their bodies just hadn’t gotten them there yet! Despite all of their pains and struggles, all of the births and deaths along the way, those who made it to the other side had a single vision: to reach the land of continuous sunshine and extraordinary wealth. To start over where anything and everything was possible. Their dreams were stronger than the obstacles in their way.

You’ve got to be a dreamer. You’ve got to envision the future. You’ve got to see California while you’re climbing 14,000-foot peaks. You’ve got to see the finish line while you’re running the race. You’ve got to hear the cheers when you’re in the middle of a monster project. And you’ve got to be willing to put yourself through the paces of doing the uncomfortable until it becomes comfortable.  You have to DO IT... because that’s how you realize your dreams.

Another Texas-based, business success story!

On this day in 1947 (May 29), Hilton Hotels was incorporated.  In 1919, Conrad Nicholson Hilton purchased his first hotel - the Mobley, at Cisco, Texas. This was the beginning of a hotel empire built in three stages: first, by leasing and renovating old hotels; next, by building new hotels on leased land, primarily in Texas; and, third, by buying existing hotels at low prices. Hilton opened a new Texas hotel every year between 1925 and 1930 and by the onset of the Great Depression owned a total of eight.

In 1938 he acquired the Sir Francis Drake Hotel in San Francisco, his first hotel outside of Texas. Hilton later established his corporate headquarters at Beverly Hills, California, and began to expand abroad, starting in Mexico. In all, Conrad Hilton eventually owned 188 hotels in thirty-eight United States cities, including the Shamrock Hotel in Houston, the Mayflower in Washington, the Palmer House in Chicago, and the Plaza and Waldorf-Astoria in New York, and fifty-four hotels abroad.

And yes... the Organo Gold movement got its start in Texas too - specifically Houston, Texas.
