Worried about your future?

I'm not.  Oh, I 'could' be if I wanted to.  I just don't want to.  It's not for me, because today is yesterday's future and I'm not worried today.  Abraham Lincoln said that, "Most people are about as happy as they makes their minds up to be."  I'd agree with that, because you're happiest when you're in control of your life - and it begins by controlling your thoughts.

The other day at at Home Depot, an employee was helping me load an item into our van and noticed the boxes of coffee inside (rule #1, always have coffee and tea with you!).  Of course, I asked him if he drinks coffee and tea and how much he enjoys working at Home Depot.  Needless to say, we chatted for a little bit and I gave him some samples to try, along with some information.

You see, you have to set the expectation for the future by taking action today.  Have a positive mental attitude and be ready when opportunity comes your way - because you bring about what you think about.

Did you know that statistically the average American spends 3.5 hours a day worrying?

Rather than giving your energy over to worry and doubt, switch your energy to belief. Could you imagine what we would be capable of accomplishing if the statistic became: The average American spends 3.5 hours a day believing and taking action? WOW!  One way that you can start transferring that energy away from worry and doubt is to set goals. Yes, we hear this a lot, but there’s a reason that you do.  Only you have control over what you wear, what you eat, what you read, etc... and it's you who are in control of your goals.  Next, realize that you can achieve them.

Believe it or not, many who set goals see it as a nice, pretty dream - like an art piece hanging on a wall that they occasionally glance at and think, "Wow, I wish I could paint something like that."  It's because they don’t believe that they can actually achieve what they envision for themselves.

Maybe you’ve set goals in the past and they still haven’t come to fruition.  That can happen, but you have to ask yourself what was in your control that attributed to the goal not being accomplished? Are you a procrastinator?  Did you lack a plan?  Did you need specialized knowledge that you didn't seek out?  Worst of all, did you let someone else talk you out of your dreams?

You need to figure that out.  You can always start over, you know. It’s up to you what you do or don’t do, this time around. Listen to your critics too, by the way. We all have them. Sometimes what they say can be valid and useful.  Don't take it personally, especially if they're not paying your bills. Most times, though, critics are just that - critics.  What they have to say can destroy your dreams if you listen to them, so filter it carefully.  As a general rule, don't listen to anyone who hasn't accomplished what you desire to do.  And most important of all... STOP worrying.
