The definition of a leader

The founder of Organo Gold, Shane Moran, was asked to describe the traits a leader.

Here's what he said...

"One of the most important traits is doing what you say you’re going to do.  Sometimes distributors are so excited they can’t stop talking and they exaggerate.  That’s not leadership."

"We try to instill that if you say you’re going to do something, you get it done, even if it hurts.  If you say you’re going to read a chapter of Think and Grow Rich every day, then read it.  We are developing leaders who are thinking carefully before they speak.  'I’m going to bring ten people to my house on Monday.'  Well, you better call forty so ten people show up."

"Next, make sure you have a definite purpose, use your imagination to develop a clear vision and take personal initiative.  This all comes down to the principles Napoleon Hill put forth in 1937.  Our distributors read about them and learn them by practicing them.  Time goes by and next thing they know, others are calling them leaders."

"Leadership is based on accountability in its simplest form.  Too many people come into this business wanting to know the most advanced tricks and fanciest systems.  We say that our most advanced system is the simplest.  Master the basics and you’ll become an expert in any company you work with."

"What is the most important success principle you will learn from Napoleon Hill?  We call it GEM, short for Going the Extra Mile.  It is the action of rendering more and better service than what you are presently compensated for.  It is a fundamental principle that can be applied in every business and all aspects of life.  The Universal Law neither permits any living thing to get something for nothing nor allows any form of labor to go unrewarded.  When you go the extra mile, the Law of Compensation always rewards you, sooner or later."

"What all great leaders have in common is that they initially give much more in services, time, and energy than they are paid for - and they do it with a positive mental attitude.  The majority of people fail to practice this one fundamental habit and therefore miss out on the tremendous benefits that come with it.  If you want your organization to grow quickly, learn this principle first by studying this habit in others.  Then, take action by developing your reputation as someone who always finds ways to go the extra mile: make the extra call, invite the extra guest, conduct the extra coffee-and-jazz mixer, add an extra customer, and so on.  The most difficult part is that in the beginning, you will feel you are not being rewarded for your extra effort.  However,if you stay committed and develop the habit of going the extra mile, it will lead to profits far beyond what you believed were possible."

Determination creates consistent, persistent action... every day!

determination Determination : a firm or fixed intention to achieve a desired end.

Is there a time you can recall when you had a special kind of drive and determination? "Nothing is going to stop me and nothing will stand in my way"?  I mean, seriously:  Have you ever been on a mission when nothing could stop you?  Most people have.  If you think HARD enough, you'll remember that time. What was it that got you to that point? Was it an external event, something on the inside, or a combination of both?  My guess is that it was probably some sort of threshold you'd reached.

Anyway, I think that determination is great for achieving short term goals - something that you can attain in a short period of time. However, when you try and keep that drive going for a long time-frame, the drive will tend to wain a bit.

That's why daily and weekly goals are what I like: a short time frame that gives me the ability to shoot for, with whatever I’m trying to accomplish.  I love arranging my days like that.  Set a goal, start the day's clock and get after it!  So much more can be accomplished in a shorter period of time, and you'll see that you're DOING something. Try it for yourself.   Besides, you need to reward yourself with short-term gains when pursuing a long-term plan.  That's psychologically critical.

Here's a way you can do it.  It's called the Jerry Seinfeld strategy.  (True story, this is what drove him for years!)  Get one of those this big, wall calendars that shows every month of the year.  Every day that you DO something toward your definite major purpose (such as losing weight, building your business, learning to dance or whatever), put a red X on that date.  Once you have several red X's in a row, you have formed a visual 'chain'.  The idea is to not break the chain!  In Seinfeld's case, it was writing.  He didn't want to go one day without writing something, and so that unbroken chain was both a motivator and evidence of progress.  It was both a conscious and sub-conscious reminder of his DETERMINATION to succeed.

Setting reasonable goals on short time frames really puts the pressure on you and can help with the determination to accomplish anything. If you haven’t done this before, remember: old habits are hard to break, but they can be broken and replaced with something positive. Good luck to you and let me know how you do!

With Organo Gold, you'll learn leadership

Why?  Because success demands it and you wouldn't want to be a failure, would you?  The good news is that leadership skills aren't that difficult and they can be taught fairly easily.  In fact, the Organo Gold system basically makes a leader out of you, whether or not you even realize that it's happening!

OK, so why is that?  Because if you follow the simple 4-step plan for success faithfully, then you are leading others!  Think about it.  Nobody is going to want to buy tea or coffee from you (or join you in this business) if you're not likeable, you don't want to talk to anybody or if you don't believe in yourself and what you're doing.

The simple, plug-in system with Organo Gold will help you overcome self-doubt and the 'paralysis' of analysis.  Basically, having a definite plan and then carrying it out is what makes leaders and successful people.

If this subject truly interests you, then read further...

The Great Leadership Challenge ~ by Jim Rohn

If you want to be a leader who attracts quality people, the key is to become a person of quality yourself. Leadership is the ability to attract someone to the gifts, skills, and opportunities you offer as an owner, as a manager, as a parent. What's important in leadership is refining your skills. All great leaders keep working on themselves until they become effective. Here are some specifics: Learn to be strong but not impolite. It is an extra step you must take to become a powerful, capable leader with a wide range of reach. Some people mistake rudeness for strength. It's not even a good substitute.

Next, learn to be kind but not weak. We must not mistake weakness for kindness. Kindness isn't weak. Kindness is a certain type of strength. We must be kind enough to tell someone the truth. We must be kind enough and considerate enough to lay it on the line. We must be kind enough to tell it like it is and not deal in delusion.Next, learn to be bold but not a bully. It takes boldness to win the day. To build your influence, you've got to walk in front of your group. You've got to be willing to take the first arrow, tackle the first problem, discover the first sign of trouble. Like the farmer, if you want any rewards at harvest time, you have got to be bold and face the weeds and the rain and the bugs straight on. You've got to seize the moment.

Here's the next step. You've got to learn to be humble but not timid. You can't get to the high life by being timid. Some people mistake timidity for humility. But humility is a virtue; timidity is a disease. It's an affliction. It can be cured, but it is a problem. Humility is almost a God-like word. A sense of awe. A sense of wonder. An awareness of the human soul and spirit. An understanding that there is something unique about the human drama versus the rest of life. Humility is a grasp of the distance between us and the stars, yet having the feeling that we're part of the stars. Here's a good tip: Learn to be proud but not arrogant. It takes pride to build your ambitions. It takes pride in your community. It takes pride in a cause, in accomplishment. But the key to becoming a good leader is to be proud without being arrogant. Do you know the worst kind of arrogance? Arrogance from ignorance. It's intolerable. If someone is smart and arrogant, we can tolerate that. But if someone is ignorant and arrogant, that's just too much to take.

The next step is learning to develop humor without folly. In leadership, we learn that it's okay to be witty but not silly; fun but not foolish. Next, deal in realities. Deal in truth. Save yourself the agony of delusion. Just accept life as it is. Life is unique. The whole drama of life is unique. It's fascinating. Life is unique. Leadership is unique. The skills that work well for one leader may not work at all for another. However, the fundamental skills of leadership can be adopted to work well for just about everyone: at work, in the community, and at home.

The Organo Gold movement asks: Are you ready to be rich?

leadership
If so, that means that you're ready to become a leader and start ACTING on your dreams.  Sounds simple, right?  Actually, it is!  Our slogan is:  "It's easy, it's simple, it's coffee."

So if getting rich with Organo Gold coffee (as so many others are doing) is as simple as becoming a leader, what will make you a leader?  The answer is that you must first BECOME the type of person that you say you want in your business.  Leaders are drawn to other leaders.  In other words, before you can attract hard-working and devoted stars to your coffee-sales business, you've got to become one yourself first!

So with that in mind, here are a few general thoughts (in my own opinion) on how to become a better leader in any calling:

1)  First of all, put God first in your life and then listen to God.  This will give you the strength and faith to take risks and get outside of your comfort zone.

2)  Spend time with leaders who are better leaders than you.  Seek them out, listen to what they say and then do what they do.  Organo Gold in general (and our Team specifically) has excellent leadership that has benefited me enormously.  We will help you too!

3)  Read and study a lot - and experience a lot.  A real leader masters the subject at hand.  Stay humble and realize that you have a lifetime of learning, developing and maturing ahead of you.  That's why it's vital to learn as much as you can every day.  Ask lots of questions and get the answers you need.  You'll get that when you surround yourself with a great team - especially those who are smarter or different than you are in some way.

4)  Transfer the truths that you learn each day and turn your input into output.  Remember that a leader has to be an inspiration to others.  That's why you need to be clear about your goals and the activities required to achieve them.

5)  Place yourself in roles/contexts that play to your strengths and not where you’re in over your head.

6)  Pray often for help and guidance.  Put it in God's hands.

7)  Say “no” to a lot of things. Stay focused on your mission and the activities where you can make the greatest impact.  In life, it is VERY easy to get distracted or heap too many projects onto your plate.

8)  Get in better touch with your intuition and let your sub-conscious mind guide you. Quit over-thinking things, because the 'paralysis of analysis' has ruined countless dreams.

Getting rich actually isn't all that difficult if you're really good at something.  And this business, Organo Gold coffee, is easy to get good at.  Getting good at it will make you a leader... and it will make you rich.

Remember this:  (Proverbs 14:23)  "All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty."

A few thoughts on Network Marketing leadership

An OG team member recently asked me, "How do I find leaders? I'm seeing all these other people having success with this, but I'm just getting frustrated."

There's only one answer to that question.  YOU have to be a leader!

Think of it this way:  If you were sitting across the table from me, would I want to join you?  Could you wholesale me 2 boxes of coffee to get me started properly? (I'd want 4)  Could you sell me a flip chart, a calendar, presentation DVD, Cash Cow CD, and tickets to the next event?  Could you open your very full calendar and show me how busy you are with coffee but would try to squeeze in my CJM's?  Would you be whining about how things are moving slow or would you be sharing your vision and goals with me?

In other words, to have the kind of  people that you want on your team, you must first BE the kind of person you want on your team.  You, yes you, have to do the things you wish your team was doing.

For one thing, set yourself up with the proper autoship and the right tools that it takes to actually build a multi-million dollar business.  (Hint: that ain't a 6-pack.)  Dial into the mentorship calls and team calls - and show up at your downline's CJM's and other events. Take notes!  Everybody I see doing these things IS MAKING MONEY!
